Professional Care Guided by Compassion

Welcome to my professional nursing ePortfolio. This portfolio highlights my RN-to-BSN journey, leadership development, clinical experience, and professional goals.

The Foundation of My Nursing Practice

Auburn University College of Nursing

Licensed Professional
Registered Nurse (RN)

State Board of Nursing Certified

I am a registered nurse with three years of experience in emergency and cardiovascular critical care. I currently work in the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit where I care for post-operative cardiac surgery patients and critically ill adults requiring advanced hemodynamic monitoring and life-support therapies. I chose nursing because I enjoy combining science, critical thinking, and compassionate care to improve patient outcomes. Returning to Auburn University for my BSN has strengthened my leadership abilities, expanded my understanding of evidence-based practice, and prepared me for future leadership opportunities in critical care nursing.

I pride myself on my ability to remain calm under pressure, a trait honed through rigorous emergency department rotations and critical care simulations. My academic achievement is mirrored by my hands-on clinical experience, allowing me to bridge the gap between theoretical medical knowledge and the practical, compassionate application of care in diverse hospital settings.

About Walker Powell

Hello, my name is Walker Powell, and I am currently a nursing student/professional pursuing further education at Auburn University. This ePortfolio highlights my journey into nursing, my professional goals, and the values that guide my practice.

I began my career as a volunteer firefighter in 2015 in a small community with limited access to healthcare. I was touched by the impact that I was able to make on an old beat-up ambulance and decided to move forward with a career in healthcare. I was motivated to pursue nursing because I wanted a career that combined compassion, critical thinking, and service to others. Seeing the positive impact nurses had on my family during difficult times inspired me to become part of the profession.

I chose to continue my education to strengthen my clinical skills, grow as a leader, and provide the highest quality care possible to my patients. Advancing my education will also help prepare me for future professional goals. I chose Auburn University because of its strong reputation for excellence in nursing education, supportive faculty, and commitment to developing professional nurse leaders.

My career so far has led me through prehospital, emergency, and critical-care medicine, where I now work in a cardiovascular intensive care unit. What I enjoy most about nursing is the opportunity to positively impact patients during some of the most challenging moments of their lives while continuously learning and growing professionally.

My long-term goal is to continue challenging myself and developing as a critical care nurse while pursuing advanced education and leadership opportunities within the nursing profession.

Nursing is more than a profession to me. It is an opportunity to serve others, advocate for patients, and make a meaningful contribution to health care. I look forward to continuing my educational and professional journey while striving for excellence in patient care.
